Plant Update #3

Had to take me plants camping with me.

Plant Update #2

Compost fertilizer is winning for the most sprouts with a total of 7! In second place is the epsom salt fertilizer with a total of 2 (somehow one disappeared). Leaving no fertilizer in the dust with just 1 lone sprout. All the plants are starting to grow more leaves, they started with 2 and some now have up to 8!

A Reptile

A Bird

A Bird: is a warm-blooded animal that lays eggs and has feathers and wings.

A Fruit: is the edible, and usually sweet, part of a plant.

I took a picture with this banana because it's a fruit and I was hungry.

An Autotroph

An Autotroph: is an organism that makes its own food using photosynthesis or chemosynthesis.

I took a picture of this bush because it uses photosynthesis to make energy.

An Abiotic Factor

An Abiotic Factor: is the non-living things in an ecosystem.

I attempted to take a picture with the sun because it's an abiotic factor in many ecosystems.

Parasitism

Parasitism: is when a parasite benefits at the expense of it's host.

I took a picture of the mosquito bites on my leg because the mosquito sucked my blood and left me itchy.

A Dicot Leaf

A Dicot Leaf: has net-like veins.

I took a picture with this plant because it's leafs have net-like veins.

A Monocot Leaf

A Monocot Leaf: has parallel veins which results in parallel leafs.

I took a picture with this little palm tree because it has parallel leafs.

Evidence of Cellular Respiration

Cellular Respiration: How heterotrophs make ATP (energy).

I took a picture next to this tree because part of cellular respiration is converting oxygen to carbon dioxide. That happens every time I breathe.

First Sprouts!

I got my first sprouts yesterday (7/21/16)!

Something Made of Cellulose

Cellulose: A fibrous carbohydrate found in some cell walls and algae.

I took a picture with a piece of paper because cellulose is used to make paper.

Geotropism

Geotropism: The growth of a plant in response to gravity.

I took a picture with this bush because even though it's growing on a slope it's still vertical instead of diagonal.

Something Made of Chitin

Chitin: a carbohydrate that is found in some cell walls and the outer coverings of insects.

I took a picture with a fly because it's an insects and insects are covered with chitin.

A Biotic Factor

A Biotic Factor: living organisms in an ecosystem

I took a picture with this aloe vera plant because it is living.

Commensalism

Commensalism: A relationship where one species benefits and the other is not affected.

I took a picture with a spider web on an ice plant. The spider benefits because it has a place to make its home while the plant isn't affected.
